ENVI-met eLibrary

With more than 20 years of developement progress, many things have changed in the ENVI-met system. Some modules have been replaced by others, some have been improved and others might be more or less the same like in version 1.

It is impossible - and it also won't make sense - to create, edit and maintain one big monograph for the ENVI-met System in whole. This has been done for Michaels Ph.D. thesis covering Version 1.0 in 1999 and it was, in parts, maintained until version V3.1 in late 2004. Also, Sebastian, Helges and Tims Ph.D Thesis cover aspects of the model at whole, so the are linked below.

Since the mid 2000, updates and documentations of the ENVI-met systems are organized in smaller papers related to specific aspects of the modelling system. These papers might be either special reports written for documentation purposes or selected published papers containing detailed descriptions of the relevant modules.

Below you will find a list of our technical reports and other papers which in total provide a more or less complete and actual documentation of the ENVI-met system.

Technical Reports

Technical Reports are detailed descriptions about specific aspects or modules of ENVI-met.

Thesis

This is a collection of different important thesis, mostly Ph.D, written about the ENVI-met system. Please be aware that these documents reflect the state of ENVI-met at the time they have been written. Hence, some aspects might no longer be true or have been changed. So please also refer to our Technical Report above for the recent state.

Sinsel, Tim (2022) Advancements and applications of the microclimate model ENVI-met Ph.D thesis building up on the improvements in Version V5, especially including the Indexed View Sphere (IVS) method, the new QSM-based trees and the improved calculation of TMRT.

Simon, Helge (2010) Modeling urban microclimate : Development, implementation and evaluation […] General overview over V4.x including Plant-as-Object model and atmospheric chemistry. This compilation should reflect the recent state of most ENVI-met modules including V5.x if used together with the thesis from Tim Sinsel and provided update articles.

Huttner, Sebastian (2012) Further development and application of the 3D microclimate simulation ENVI-met Ph.D thesis focussing on early V4.0. The description of model basics is still mostly accurate, but the 3-node wall model is no longer used.
