Download ENVI-met V3

ENVI-met V3.1 (Beta) is the recent stable version of ENVI-met including LEONARDO 3.75 (see remark below). It is labelled “BETA” because some of the documentation has not been updated from V3.0, but the changes are small.

The model technology of ENVI-met Version 3 can be considered as outdated. This download page is kept up, as long as the Version 4 testing phase is not finalized. However, if there are no good reasons, you should download Version 4 instead of V3.1.

Technical remarks

Memory Requirements

Depending on the size of your model domain, we recommend to have at least 2 GByte of RAM in your PC. Smaller domains will work on 1 GByte PCs as well, but there won't be much space for other things then…. However, memory is a cheap thing today so it should not be a problem to upgrade your computer to any memory size needed…

WINDOWS 7/8.x/10 compatibility

ENVI-met 3.1 will work both on 32 Bit and 64 Bit WINDOWS 7/8 and the previews of WIN10 systems. However, there are some conditions under which you might find problems using ENVI-met. These can mainly be overcome following these steps:

  • Make sure that you have installed ENVI-met in a folder where you have full read/write access. This is normally NOT the “program files” folder. Use some other folder instead. ENVI-met can be installed in any folder on any drive
  • Try to avoid spaces in filenames and foldername. Although this should work most of the times, it can be a pitfall which is easy to avoid.
Computing resources

Be aware, that ENVI-met is a full-scale climate simulation system. Small modells (20×20, 30×30,..) will run as you watch, but large (250×250) models will require days to weeks to simulate data. Read more...

AddOn2014: LEONARDO 2014 & BioMet

The AddOn2014 package is an additional download that updates to LEONARDO 2014 and adds ENVI-met BioMet to V3.1 systems. It is recommended, that after installing ENVI-met V3.1, you install this package to upgrade LEONARDO and install BioMet. For download see below or here

Installation remarks

The setup is like any other WINDOWS setup. ENVI-met does not require any WINDOWS registry entries to run, except those used to handle the icon display of files and the automatic file type detection.
If you don't need these, you can use ENVI-met as a portable software.

Questions about ENVI-met?

If you have questions of any kind about ENVI-met and its application, checkout our forum at http://www.envi-met.info/envibbv3/. A free registration is required to read/post.
Before you post, ask yourself:

  • Have my questions been asked & answered before? →If YES, don't post. Maybe extend the old forum thread with new aspects.
  • Can I answer my question with a bit of thinking and the manual? →If YES, don't post.
  • Can my answer be found in the technical papers about ENVI-met? →If YES, don't post.
  • Is there any chance somebody can actually answer my question? (Q like “I get strange temperature results, what went wrong?” without showing any other information such as plots, configuration files or Area Input files do not make any sense)
  • Does my question make sense? Questions like “Why is the temperature of my simulation different to the one I have meassured?” cannot be answered. There are heaps of papers and Ph.D on the question how to choose input parameters and where are the limits of a model simulation. Get into them…

Questions e-mailed to our private or office e-mail adresses will be ignored! Spam-like behaviour will result in the cancellation of the ENVI-met account.
