Concept of Workspaces, Projects and Scenarios
Projects and Scenarios
Starting with ENVI-met V5.7, your simulation input files (SIMX, INX, FOX) must be stored in the root of the Project home folder.
However, as your projects become more complex, you may want to organize them into sub-tasks representing specific aspects of the simulations of this project, such as “Design A”, “Design B” or “Scenario 2050”.
In ENVI-met versions before 5.7 you could just freely create subfolders within the project and store your data there. In the last years, with ENVI-met projects becoming increasingly large and complex, it became clear that this concept was a major source of problems and uncertainties, which files are actually used in a simulation and where they are actually located. To overcome this issue, since V5.7 the location of the simulation input files is more strict as all input files must be located in the project root folder (see Figure below).
If you want to organize different input files in subfolders, they need to be registered as “Scenarios” in ENVI-met (e.g. Scenario A, B and C in the Figure above). There again, all input files for a Scenario must be stored in the root of the associated Scenario folder.
Input files belonging to Scenario A can only be “seen” and used when working with Scenario A, files belonging to Scenario B can only be used with Scenario B and so on. Input files stored in the root folder of the project (called “Base”) are common files that can be accessed from all Scenarios.
